Myofunctional Therapy

Orofacial Myology, also known as Orofacial Myofunctional Treatment, is a type of therapy that aims to improve Orofacial muscle function in relation to dental and speech development.

Positive behaviour change is used in Orofacial Myology to remove habits, such as thumb sucking, reverse swallow pattern (tongue thrust), nail/pen biting, and/or mouth breathing that can lead to unfavored growth patterns.

Myofunctional therapy is a retraining procedure that improves sleep quality and overall health by retraining a person's ability to position their tongue correctly and breathe properly. This procedure is often used in combination with frenectomy (tongue-tie release), habit cessation, and orthodontics. The improvement of tongue posture, nasal breathing, jaw function, and natural facial development is aided by therapy.
